Kidney Disease and Diabetes

Kidney disease and diabetes are closely-related. About 40% of people with diabetes get kidney disease as well. It is because patients with diabetes have higher risks for kidney disease. Kidney disease can grow silently with symptoms showing late, when kidneys already have failed. However, there is hope that this risk is cut down with the following steps:

Take care of your kidneys kidney disease

Just like any part or organ of the body, the kidneys play an essential role to make you healthy and live. The kidneys help the body wash out excess water and toxins from the blood. They help normalize blood sugar, maintain potassium and sodium levels and control acidity in the blood. Aside from that, they produce red blood cells.

Avoid kidney disease and diabetes all the time. Never take your kidneys and blood sugare for granted. Get kidney regular checkups. Like any illness, the damage of kidneys can be prevented or slowed down if detected early. Take good care of your kidneys and they shall take care of you for long.

Maintain healthy blood sugar levels

Make sure blood sugar levels are in safe and healthy range. Perform more physical activities and exercise for they shall help lower your blood sugar levels and control blood pressure at the same time.

Smoking

Stop smoking and never try smoking at all. Smoking lessens the flowing of blood to the kidneys hindering them from functioning well. Most smokers develop kidney problems.

Smoking indirectly produces kidney disease by getting diabetes first. It has the tendency to raise blood sugar levels; and makes it more difficult for the body to use insulin.

Drugs

If you need to take drugs, use them with caution since they can cause damage to the kidneys anytime. Seek the guidance of your doctor or health professional who can monitor the usage of these medications.
